Can’t Forget the Small Things

We’re well into week three of our “stay-home” order and there’s been a great deal of changes in this short amount of time. My scholars are all working remotely, over 3 million people filed for unemployment, and I even had a family member pass away. With everything happening, its easy to forget the little things. My friend, Brittany Patrice, over at iambrittanypatrice.com, reminded me to stop and smell the roses with her journaling prompt about gratefulness. The prompt called for 10 of the little things in life that I’m grateful for, but because I like extra credit, I’m going to do 20. In no particular order, take a look at 20 small things that I’m grateful for in this season of uncertainty:

  1. Canada Dry Ginger Ale: Is there anything better? Ya’ll bet not say Schweppes!
  2. My wife’s hugs: Talk about feeling at home
  3. This brand new candle someone gave me
  4. Laughing with my mother over the weekend
  5. Hot water in my shower
  6. Hell, our heater for that matter!
  7. Jay Broader breaking up a party on tik-tok
  8. My wife purchasing obscure things that I’m against at first and start using like a back pillow
  9. Chap-stick
  10. Lotion from Bed, Bath, and Body Works
  11. My groupchats
  12. Living through the 90s
  13. Quiet
  14. The Apple Screentime notification that constantly shows my phone usage keeps going down week to week
  15. Saturday Night Live youtube videos
  16. Old WWE/WWF matches that feature some of my favorite wrestlers
  17. My wedding song
  18. Lil’ Duval’s IG
  19. Blocking negative people
  20. My laugh

That took me a lot longer than I anticipated, but definitely a great opportunity to pause and reflect. Again it’s so easy to forget the minor things that give you energy, smile, or a sense of happiness. Take a moment today and reflect on what the small things in your life that you constantly overlook!
